In 2015 the sharing economy was estimated to be worth about $229 billion domestically and predicted to grow at a rate of 40% annually over the next five years. By 2020 it could account for 10% GDP growth, according to the State Information Centre in Beijing. China is poised to take advantage of the opportunity, with high adaptation rates of key technologies. For policy-makers to invest in sharing economy, there needs to be a strong information base to make informed decisions.
