The circular economy (CE) has received increasing attention in the past few years. The circularity of economic processes means fewer unusable final components, products and energy remain at the end of production and consumption cycles. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has distinguished four core strategies that can be used to move from a linear economy to a CE. The potential economic effects of the rise of the CE as well as estimates on how many jobs will be lost are rather unclear. The CE may have both a positive and negative effect on employment creation; this is not usually addressed in gross circular employment estimations.
