Construction is one of the largest sectors of today’s global economy, representing 13% of GDP and employing 7% of the world’s working age population. In a circular economy, renewable materials are used where possible, energy is provided from renewable sources, natural systems are preserved and enhanced, and waste and negative impacts are designed out. A circular approach employs three main principles: 10-15% of building material wasted during construction. 20-40% of energy in existing buildings can be profitably conserved.
