  5. National Audit Office – Measuing and reporting public sector greenhouse gas emissions

In June 2019, Parliament passed an amendment to the Climate Change Act 2008 committing the UK to achieving ‘net zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The government estimates that emissions from public sector buildings account for around 2% of total UK emissions. Government restated a commitment to halve direct emissions by 2032 and set a new target to reduce them by 75% by the end of 2037, measured against a 2017 baseline. Measuring and reporting is essential to helping the public sector to its best to measure and report on its emissions.
