There are millions of farms globally, each using a unique set of practices to cultivate their products in the local climate and soil. Relative GHG emissions of producing the same product may differ drastically depending on how and where it is grown. Soy production has grown exponentially over the last 70 years, and the increased amount of cropland devoted to soy has been a major cause of deforestation and habitat conversion. The rapid expansion of soy production has come at the expense of habitats worldwide but is concentrated in South America.
