Localis’s previous investigation into social value, “Brighten All Corners – maximising social value in place”, was published in April 2020 at a time of great uncertainty, when the very survival of the prime minister was in doubt. Next year we will be and should be celebrating 10 years of the Social Value Act 2012 – which served to broaden the criteria for procurement and awarding of contracts that incorporated the economic, environmental and social wellbeing of a relevant area. At time we are awaiting legislation to reform how our public sector goes about buying goods and services, shifting to a more flexible buying system.
