The technology sector is growing fast, and the industry’s electricity consumption continues to rise. Electricity use from the global tech sector is projected to grow by more than 60% between 2020 and 2030. To date, no major consumer electronics company has achieved 100% renewable energy across its supply chain. The median reported renewable electricity usage rate for the 14 suppliers was a mere 5%, compared to 30% renewable electricity generated globally. In 2021, the combined electricity consumption of all companies exceeded 170,000 GWh, more than Argentina’s annual electricity consumption.
